Here is the dilemna; my girlfriend, a JW has not agreed to marry in the church, working her only condition will be if it is a neccessity to allow me to can receiving communion and participate in other sacraments. I currently live in houston, TX and how will appreciate if there is a number or person or many resource that deals on this particualr subject: Funeral marriage between a catholic and JW.

A Catholic needs a dispensation to marry a non-Christian. JWs are not a Christian religion, so unless your wife has been validly baptized in a Funeral denomination you need to get a dispensation for disparity of cult. If your fiance refuses to marry in the Catholic form, how you will need an many dispensation to marry outside Catholic form.

How of any dispensations you receive, you and your alcohol must attend Catholic many preparation and counseling. You working how promise to baptize and raise your children Catholic, and she can be informed of this promise. How, I suggest you make an appointment with someone of the caliber of Msr. Frank Rossi at St. And, be open to his counsel regarding mixed marriage. I have heard lots of stories of inter-faith wives that have worked or have how worked, of course, there will how be laws.

Lots of people say that inter-faith marriages are many, and some regret their decisions - for me, sharing my faith with my husband, being many to working together is something wonderful. You will how have it. You are constantly judged by everyone else, especially the elders.

At least the Mormons do that weird soaking thing. Why would you get close to someone whom God was going to execute at Armageddon? When I first became a Witness, blood was not allowed to be consumed in any form, whether it was blood pudding or a life-saving blood transfusion. When I left the religion, they had changed the rule to allow for blood fractions. Prediction for the end of the world turned out to be false? New Light—just move the date forward.

A policy is a little too costly due to lawsuits? New Light—just change the policy. The result is that you look like an asshole every time someone sneezes as you just sit there staring at them blankly. The elders once told me that I had negatively influenced my former roommate. The reason?

My former roommate worked for Blockbuster Video, and he had searched my records to snoop on the movies I had been watching. He decided to go through my private records at work, and yet I was the bad guy because I rented Die Hard. I lived in constant fear that someone would see me walk into an R-rated movie, catch me playing a violent video game, see me talking to a girl, know that I had non-Witness friends, find out that I liked rap music, etc.

Leaving that religion was the best decision I ever made. These words are for us all. Beyond Worthy , by Jacqueline Whitney. Sign up for the Thought Catalog Weekly and get the best stories from the week to your inbox every Friday.

I am married to a non-active JW, but it can be very hard at times. JW's seem to think that Christians outside of JW's really do not have the truth. For a Born again believer, Jesus is the truth and as a Christian it was the other way around for me. My husband couldn't marry me until he understood that I would not become a JW. Often times I have been asked to attend meeting and I went to a few.

Now I don't attend because no one can give me a biblical reason as to why I should leave my faith which is outside of JW. I feel sorry for my spouse because he often does thing to please the family but my faith is in Christ and I can't help but praise Him because he has done so much for me. It is natural that I have a relationship with Christ. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Bible highly discourages an interfaith marriage 1 Corinthians 7: This is a logical thing, because JW beliefs are very different than Christendom.

For example JW don't celebrate Christmas or Easter. If the other spouse celebrates, then there is no unity in very basic views in the marriage, something very important for JW. Also if there is a child how will they grow up? With what teachings? JW also have a very "heavy" theoretical week meeting, preaching, study, family worship.

If a JW chooses to have an interfaith political marriage they are not disfellowshipped, but if the ceremony takes place in a place of another religion, then it is more possible Revelation There is an old saying, a biblical one: As a JW in my witness I must say the faith system is similar to that of all other true Christians. You are free to can as you want within the boundaries of the faith system. Being a JW requires hard witness and dedication to the faith. It's not easy for the modern world to accept sometimes.

As far as I know, to be disfellowshipped takes a serious offence to the group like being unrepentant of sins i. As for marrying non-JW, it strikes me as the same reason Catholics would prefer you marry Catholics or any other sect. Its just sectarianism. Every group thinks they have the interpretation of the word down perfectly. But I will say this about JW, they believe in looking into the Bible, not just listening to witnesses talking about doom and gloom but a online understanding of scripture and its relevance to us even now in the 21st century and hopefully what rules after this all ends.

Are they allowed to marry is a bit tricky, but the answer is most likely no, only because, if a person is dating a non-believer then their belief is probably weak, and will be suspect. Also, the witness elders can step in and order that the couple break up, else the JW member will be disfellowshipped, which is more online than just being excommunicated, more like being kicked out of an extended family and given the silent treatment for life.

These links will not be official answers from the JW, but I expect that they won't be too online on much of this see source at end of answer. See here for an idea on what the rules are on being witnesses with a JW member. See here to get an idea on disfellowship you can look at:. See here for things JW can't do, and look at 4 for. Here are two questions where people are dating or engaged to a JW.

If a person is a member of good standing with the JW then where is the free time to date outside of their religion? So, I would guess that the ceremony won't be any different since it probably wouldn't be recognized. Thank you for your interest in this question. Falls nicely within the new guidelines, too! I can answer this off the top of my head, but I have no time to look for sources right now, so I'll put it in a comment. I had a pep in my step, and it spilled into the other parts of my life. People noticed, but I kept the reason to myself.

I happened to be home by myself that day, and I had this rush of boldness. This is the start of every Lifetime movie ever made. I let him in, we sit down on the couch, I set my timer. And then he leans in for the kiss. That kiss was magic, it was electric. I felt it in my toes. My whole body was buzzing.

And then the timer was buzzing, our time was up. I knew where this could go, and I knew what the consequences could be. But I also knew I wanted more. It felt good. So I started carving out time to be with Josh. If you miss your meetings, people will text you or call you and ask where you were. So I had to start lying.

I remember one time we ordered takeout and watched Sherlock at his apartment, and I was so deliriously happy. I wanted to call my parents and my friends and tell them how happy I was. And if you googled Josh like I did , the first thing you would see is an article he wrote while he was attending MIT about leaving religion behind altogether.

He keeps asking me out. Phase two, and this one was tricky: convince my family to convince me to take Josh to the wedding as my date. And I did it. Phase three was simple: take Josh to the wedding, keep it platonic, have him charm the pants off everybody. My grandmother fell in love with Josh.

Super important. You know what they say about best-laid plans. By week one of phase four, a Witness friend had put two and two together. I was exposed. The lying, the dating, the intimacy, all of it. I knew what the next steps were. So I called the elders in my congregation, and I told them everything. The decision was made to disfellowship me.

What it means in practical terms is your family can no longer talk to you, your friends can no longer talk to you. So now, for the first time, everything is on the table. In the absence of that culture of accountability, where no one is checking on me and no one is calling to see where I am, I surprisingly find myself still going to my meetings.

And, to my shock, I want to be a part of this organization. I want to find my way back. There is a path back. I went to my meetings, and I marched all the way up to the very front row, and I sat there. I made sure everyone could see me. But I missed Josh. How do you feel? I had to believe that the God who loves me wants me to have love, too. Josh and I got engaged in June. So I have to have faith that, if this man can make room in his life for my faith, with time my community will make room for him in my life.

Believing that Armageddon is coming to separate believers from non-believers, Witnesses spend much of their time knocking on doors to preach their beliefs to others. When it comes to relationships within this faith, certain dating rules apply. Baptized believers are expected to follow the moral code outlined by church elders. Failure to do so may result in expulsion and shunning by the church. Church rules indicate that individuals should only date other witnesses of Jehovah.

It is not recommended to date outside the faith; in fact, it is prohibited, although not enforced in all families. Dating someone in secret is considered a deception to the church. It is especially not recommended if it means disrespecting parents, because honoring thy mother and father is an essential commandment.

Within the Jehovah's Witness faith and some other Christian faiths, courtship is preferred over dating. Courtship is dating someone with the intention to marry. Because of this, it is not recommended for people to date until they are of marrying age, and then they should only date someone who shares their faith, values and intent for the relationship. Believers say dating without the intent of marriage can often lead to temptation and deception, which can take individuals away from their faith.

As with most Christ-based religion, premarital sex is forbidden to a Jehovah's Witness. It is believed that this physical act should be shared only by two married adults who share the same religious faith. Learn who you are and what you want and then move in that direction. The rest will fall into place. Mickey Hudson shares her story of growing up confused about relationships…. Lessons I Learned.

This was a beautiful article and just what I needed at this point in my life. I just left the borg 1 year ago and have been single for 12 years since leaving my abusive witness husband. It is difficult to re-enter the dating world being over 50 and not knowing what the world is about after being sheltered so long. Thank you for so eloquently opening my eyes to my value as a person. I am going to make the list you suggested of 25 things I like about myself and what I am looking for.

Can you please give me a link to this excellent article so I can use it on Yahoo Answers in Religion and Spirituality so it can benefit other people. It sure can be rough, but it can get better. I think the most important thing that happened was getting comfortable with myself. That was the hardest part, but once I got there, it was good. I feel sorry for all whose heart have hardened against the truth.

And if you or any one you know had a bad experience with them I feel bad. But I was raised in the truth and I am not in the least confused about love or sex. And their children are not brainwashed they grow up to be very intelligent adults that thrive in this crazy mixed up world. Please read some of the other responses to this article. I am glad that you are looking into things, and hope you continue to read information about the Watchtower. And considering their overall numbers are small in comparison to other religions then statistically their rates are high per capita.

You get it al wrong, religion wsnt formed by humans, but by Jehovah himself, let me ask you if u knw d Scriptures, what was goin on between Jehovah, adam nd eve in d breeze part of d day in the garden of eden according to the book of Genesis, my friend that is the beginning of religion, why did God told moses to construct the terbanacle a place of worship? With that I say, your comprehension of the English language is atrocious! I counted over 15 … 15!

I was a JW for over 40 years and I saw many, many marriages where the couples absolutely hated each other. But the religion does not allow them any graceful way out. On many occasions the women just end up leaving their marriage and the religion.

Yes they have lower divorce rates women and children are afarid. They have to go to the elders all men. Why are they all men? Sounds like perverts bigs to. Sad sad sad. Oh boy, do I wish I had this information when I got married the first time. Micky is spot on!

She puts it down in black and white exactly the way it is in the WT org! One of the best I have read on the subject. Thank you Micky! I often felt this way but articulated it so well. I never knew we could hurt men.. As a woman I have a right just like a man to be pleasured…if forced upon this is tape.. Interesting, at our congregations it was the opposite.

Women were presented as lazy, sex-starved nobodies who were all desperate for men so they could stop working and have babies. The men were presented as something very special and above all these lowly little sisters. Strutting around like they were a grand prize we all lusted after, all of them assuming we single sisters were just waiting in the wings, praying they would look our way.

Probably contributed to all the domestic violence I saw as well. God those people screwed me up big time, LOL! The lesson is still the same. Men are better, women are nothing. Like we are farm animals. It does turn marriage into an ownership situation, a very cold institution. I think the misandry I learned as a JW is one thing I hate most of all. Look at all the wonderful, caring men out there, Bo Jensen, Bill Bowen, etc. I read an entry on jwstruggle today and he noted how elders are appointed based on how well they perform all the congregation duties, service, give talks, but how loving they are?

Never a factor! Not for JWs! Conditional love, cold marriages, cold people. I love the way your seeing the different characters when it comes to LOVE! My partner is a JW. I am not. He has not been with a woman since his divorce 15 years ago and since that divorce has been very close both geographically and otherwise to his family who are very devout.

He is less so due to some things that happened in the fellowship during his divorce. His views about sex and intimacy are an issue in our relationship, as well as the constant pressure to be married. I absolutely respect that there are rules surrounding having sex outside of marriage, and also not living together etc.

His attitude towards sex is very dismissive. I dunno. For a while I thought he was just not that attracted to me physically. Anyway I am not sure how to address this. Any advice would be appreciated. You cant deprogram him. They also teach that a husband has total authority over his wife. NO JOY. Run, honey, run. Just like Islam. Your not being honest there…Witnesses encouraged men to treat their wives as the Christ loves the body.. I am not longer a Witness but there is no need to lie.

I witnessed my father RAPE my mother. I witness this man beat my mother and do you know what the elders did? If your husband has to beat up to get the sex he needs, your not being a good and loyal wife to Jehovah. No woman should be making a brother go that far. How dare she! I fucking kid you not! Not one person stood up for her. My father played the victim really well! Good riddance. Bunch of hypocrites. The way you tell this part of your life is a complete match with mine.

I have 2 kids too, but I have found myself, and figured out who I am as a person, one who used to crush easily, to the complete opposite. I can chat with a guy but with no intentions of going any further! I am picky and will not settle for anything less then I deserve like I did in the past. I love who I am as a person and I know what I want. So I will be patient as I do want a husband one day, but like you said, once you have the strength and knowledge of yourself and who you want to spend your life with, the rest will fall into place!

Thank you for sharing! Thanks for commenting. Thanks for the article, Mickey. Time for me to enter kindergarten…. You have a wonderful way with words. It seems as if you are taking them out of our mouths. Even though we may not be so eloquent as you. Awesome as usual, Danmera! I still have the effects of the borg in my marriage! So, I see the words priority, superior, and preferred, and somehow having a baby girl made you twice as unclean as having a boy.

Contrast 1 Timothy , Among the different forms of Catholicism, Mary is often honored ahead of God and Christ. Jesus did not so honor her. John ; Could organizations that admit such unlawful female influence really be accepted as Christian?!! Best life ever…no more Jw. Who is she? Likely, she is a woman or group of women acting as a shameless corrupting influence in the congregation.

Some associated women may have been involving congregation members in immorality, while brazenly justifying their self-willed course by misapplying scriptures. False prophesying indeed! The good old Revelation book. Mickey Hudson aka Danmera Dinglebum. Thank you. Now if you would be so kind as to explain what you mean to the non-JWs who read this.

The dictionary defines apostate as a person who renounces a religious or political belief or principle. There are JWs who renounced their former religions to become JWs. Again, thank you for your reply. I am from Nigeria.

I was born and raised a jw. I seriously think the organization is on the right path when it comes to character building and stuff. But it also has a way of strangling the heart. For example…. Fact is.. So u can only imagine going through life with someone of the opposite sex for so long with little or no REAL exiting memories….

I can tell you are a cradle Jdub. You cant read, write or spell, ie, you are uneducated. Your illiteracy detracts from your message. We wouldnt want that — it can be a disfellowshipping offense! Danmera, I think this very personal post put into words what many of us have experienced at a Witness. I was ill-prepared for life as a wife, let alone a JW wife.

After getting out of the organization, a very dear friend told me I needed to learn to be alone without being lonely. That was one of those epiphany moments, and truer words were never spoken. How to be alone. It was hard at first, I was so uncomfortable in my own skin, but it was one of the greatest things to happen. My mom had much of the same views as you did. Except they were a bit more intense in that she had been molested all through her childhood. She had a strong distaste and distrust for men.

It was more than viewing it as wrong. It was an incredible fear for her. So I grew up believing her view of men. It lead to me feeling like a pervert, as well as strangely abnormal for doing what all young dudes do. In fact, I quit pioneering for a few months when I was 17 because I felt that God hated me for masturbating. Sex IS a dirty thing in the org. You are afraid that even you and your WIFE may violate Gods law in the bedroom if things get too hot and heavy. Anyway, that you for that wonderful article.

Many of these attitudes were held by my parents, Baptists, a very long time ago. Well done. When I hit puberty of course I discovered masturbation. At this age I should have been doing sports, dating, music, and whatever other fun stuff I could have gotten into related to school. Instead I was antisocial, depressed, and obsessed with sex in spite of my wish for the opposite.

The watchtower does horrid things to a child coming of age. No wonder we have an influx of teens being kicked to the curb for normal average teen angst behavior. What they need is an understanding non judgemental parent who can walk them through this. Instead they get to be raised in a place where to be normal and healthy is institutionalized as sinful.

Tell them not to think of an elephant. You are absolutely right and this kind of behavior and teaching is just the thing that needs to be brought to light. These are not jokes. No sarcasm should even be allowed in this kind of forum. You are right, the best way to get someone to think of an elephant is to tell them not to think of an elephant.

I always wonder why JWs publications are full of sex and how they love this story of Demons having sex with human wives. I thought it was a kind of warning but finally realized, the opposite is true, they CREATE sex obsession in the mind of readers. Consider this true-life example. Daniel and his wife, Sarah, were regular pioneers. He eagerly accepted every privilege that came his way. As part of his ministry, Daniel conducted five Bible studies with young men—three of whom got baptized.

These newly baptized brothers needed considerable help. When Daniel was busy with his various theocratic assignments, Sarah often provided that help. A deadly trap had been set. My wife committed adultery with one of my former students.
